Air Polishing in Austin & Round Rock, TX

At Forest Family Dentistry we are always looking for ways to make dental care more comfortable and more effective for our patients. Air polishing is one of those treatment that people genuinely love once they try it, and we are proud to offer it across all five of our Austin and Round Rock locations as part of our preventive and periodontal care.

What Is Air Polishing?

Air polishing is a modern dental cleaning technique that uses a gentle stream of compressed air, warm water, and a fine powder made from glycine or erythritol to remove plaque, stains, and biofilm from your teeth and along the gumline. It covers more surface area than traditional rubber cup polishing, gets into the spaces between teeth more effectively, and does it all with significantly less abrasion on your enamel.

What Makes It Different from Traditional Polishing?

Traditional polishing uses a spinning rubber cup and a gritty paste to clean the tooth surface, which can feel uncomfortable and is more abrasive over time. Air polishing accomplishes the same goal with much a lighter touch. It is faster, gentler on enamel and existing dental work, and most patients find it noticeably more comfortable, especially those with sensitive teeth or gums.

Who Is It a Good Fit For?

Air polishing works beautifully for just about anyone but it is especially beneficial if you wear braces or Invisalign® aligners, have dental impants, crowns, bridges, or other cosmetic restorations, experience surface staining from coffee, tea, wine, or tobacco, or simply want a deeper and more thorough clean before a whitening treatment. Patients with senistive teeth or a history of gum disease often find it to be a much more comfortable experience than what they are used to.
