I get asked about Invisalign constantly. Patients want to know if it actually works, if it is really as invisable as the ads say, and honestly whether it is worth the investment. I have a pretty unique perspective on that question because I have been througn Invisalign® myself, and I want to share what that experience was actually like.
I never had braces growing up. My parents figured my teeth were straight enough and I never thought much about it either. That changed during my gap year before dental school when I worked as records technician at Kunik Orthodontics in Austin. Every single day I took dental scans and before and after photos of nearly every patient who came through the door. And I was genuinely stunned by how they carried themselves afterwards. The transformations were incredible, not just in how people looked but in how they carried themselves afterward. Their confidence was completely different. That experience stuck with me.
Even after seeing hundreds of those transformations up close I was still hesitant to start Invisalign® myself. Eventually Dr. Kunick and his team encouraged me to give it a try and I am so glad they did. The chance in my own smile has been more noticeable that I ever anticipated. I get compliments on it regularly but more importantly I feel the difference every day in my confidence, my oral hygiene, and my overall comfort when I bite and chew.
Invisalign® uses a series of custom made clear aligners that gradually shift your teeth into better alignment over time. They are made from a smooth, comfortable plastic that fits snugly over your teeth and is nearly invisible to anyone looking at you. Every few weeks you move to the next set of aligners in your series and your teeth shift a little further toward the final result. At Forest Family Dentistry we also use advanced 3D imaging to show you a preview of what your smile will look like at the end of treatment before you commit to anything, which most patients find really reassuring.
The biggest reason people choose Invisalign® over traditional braces is that it fits into real life. The aligners are clear so most people will not notice you are wearing them even in meetings, photos, or on dates. They are removable which means you can eat and drink whatever you want, brush and floss completely normally, and take them out for special occassions if you want to. There are no brackets to irritate you cheeks and no wires to snap. The appointments are also less frequent than traditional braces which matters a lot for busy adults.
this is something I want every patient to understand. A straighter smile is genuinely better for your long term oral health, not just your appearance. Teeth that are crowded or crooked are significantly harder to brush and floss effectively, which means plaque builds up in the tight spaces and the risk of cavities and gum disease goes up over time. Proper alignment also reduces uneven tooth wear, jaw tension, and the kind of bite strain that contributes to headaches and TMJ symptoms. The aesthetic benefit is real but it is honestly just one part of a bigger picture.
This is worth knowing before you start shopping around. Forest Family Dentistry is an Invisalign® Diamond Plus provider which puts in the top of one percent of practices in the entire country by case volume and outcome. Our doctors have treated thousands of Invisalign® cases collectively and Dr. Robin Bethell alone has completed over 4,000. That level of experience matters enormously when it comes to treatment plannings, managing complex cases, and delivering results that actually look the way you hoped.
If you have been thinking about Invisalign® in Austin or Round Rock I would genuinely encourage you to come in for a consultation. We will do a free 3D scan of your smile, show you what your results could look like, and give you an honest answer about whether Invisalign® is the right fit for your specific situation. No pressure, just information.
